Zero-click search

A search in which someone gets the answer without clicking on a search result.

Because of AI overviews, maps and featured snippets, more and more searches end without a click. That's why your business needs to be visible in the answers themselves. That's what GEO and AEO are about.

What does this mean in practice?

In a zero-click search, the user doesn't click on any result. They get the answer directly in Google: in an AI Overview, a featured snippet, the map or a knowledge panel. So they don't need to visit a website.

Why does this matter for your business?

Fewer and fewer clicks go to websites, even if you rank high in the results. Businesses that appear in the answers themselves, with their name, phone number and rating shown directly, benefit from this.

Examples and best practices

  • Optimise your Google Business Profile with your phone number and reviews.
  • Write short, clear answers to frequently asked questions that are easy to quote.
  • Use structured data so Google can show more information.
  • Don't just look at clicks, but at impressions too.

What clients say

We came to Ikoon on the recommendation of an acquaintance. They built a top-notch shop, including design and SEO. We're already selling a great many bottles and are very grateful for their fantastic support. (…)
