Without these settings, emails from your business domain end up in spam more often. It also makes it easier for scammers to pose as your business.
What does this mean in practice?
SPF, DKIM and DMARC are three email security measures stored in your domain's DNS. SPF specifies which servers are allowed to send email on behalf of your domain. DKIM adds a digital signature to your messages. DMARC tells the recipient what to do with emails that fail these checks.
Why does this matter for your business?
Without these security measures, business emails such as quotes, appointment confirmations and invoices end up in spam more often. Scammers can also pose as your business more easily. Gmail and other providers increasingly require these measures.
Examples and best practices
- Add every service that sends email on your behalf to your SPF record.
- Turn on DKIM with your email provider and in your sending tools.
- Start with DMARC in monitoring mode (p=none).
- Check your settings with a free email tester.
