llms.txt

A proposed file with clearly organised information about your website, specifically for language models.

Just as robots.txt is intended for crawlers, llms.txt is meant to help AI models quickly understand the most important content on a website. It's a new standard that is still being developed.

What does this mean in practice?

llms.txt is a proposal for a simple text file in the root folder of your website (yoursite.com/llms.txt). It contains a short summary of what your business does and a list of your most important pages, in a format that AI models can read easily.

Why does this matter for your business?

AI models understand more quickly what matters most on your website and can summarise your offering better. The standard is new and not every system uses it yet. But it's easy to implement and costs nothing.

Examples and best practices

  • Describe your business in 2 or 3 sentences: what you do, where and for whom.
  • Include links to your services, prices, FAQs and contact page.
  • Use the simple Markdown format.
  • Update the file after major changes to your website.

How we do it at Ikoon
