The KvK Business Register lists businesses and legal entities. It is a public source of basic company information.
What does this mean in practice?
The Business Register includes the name, address, KvK number, legal form, activities and who is authorised to represent the company. Activities are classified using SBI codes. All legal forms are in the same register, from sole proprietorship to private limited company (bv).
Why does this matter for your business?
The Business Register lets you check whether a company exists, what it does and who is authorised to sign on its behalf. You can look up basic details for free on the KvK website. An official extract costs a small fee. Useful for checking out a new customer or supplier.
Examples and best practices
- Before a large assignment, check that the business exists and is active.
- Check who is authorised to sign before you enter into an agreement.
- Keep your own details in the register up to date.
- Check that your SBI codes match what you actually do.
How we do it at Ikoon
Make sure the details on your website match your entry in the Trade Register. On an Ikoon website, your name, address and KvK number are the same everywhere, including in the structured data. With the Google Business Profile optimisation module, we make sure your Google profile is correct too. That helps with trust and local visibility.
