Core Web Vitals

Google's metrics for a page's speed, stability and responsiveness.

Core Web Vitals consist of LCP (how quickly the main content loads), INP (how quickly the page responds to a click) and CLS (how stable the layout stays). Google takes them into account when ranking search results.

What does this mean in practice?

Core Web Vitals measure how a website performs from the visitor's point of view. LCP measures how quickly the main content appears. INP measures how quickly the page responds to clicks. CLS measures whether elements shift while the page loads.

Why does this matter for your business?

Google factors these metrics into its search results, and visitors notice the effect straight away. A slow website that jumps around loses customers before they've read what you offer.

Examples and best practices

  • LCP under 2.5 seconds: use a lightweight header image and good hosting.
  • INP under 200 milliseconds: use fewer heavy scripts and plugins.
  • CLS under 0.1: reserve space for images and adverts.
  • Check your scores in PageSpeed Insights and Search Console.
