GDPR (AVG)

The European privacy law that governs how you collect and use personal data. In Dutch: AVG.

The GDPR determines how a business may collect and process data, for example from a contact form. Your website should have a privacy statement and secure forms.

What does this mean in practice?

The GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation, known in Dutch as the AVG) is the European law that determines how businesses may collect, store and use personal data. Think of a name, phone number or e-mail address from a contact form.

Why does this matter for your business?

Every business with a website collects data, even if only through a form or analytics. Without a privacy statement, consent or proper security, you risk fines and lose your customers' trust.

Examples and best practices

  • Put a privacy statement on your site with your company's details as the data controller.
  • Only collect the data you really need.
  • State on your form why you are processing the data.
  • Make sure you have a cookie banner and secure forms via HTTPS.

How we do it at Ikoon

Every Ikoon website runs on HTTPS, with an SSL certificate included in the hosting. With the GDPR and cookie package, you also get a privacy statement, a cookie banner with Consent Mode v2 and a record of the consent given.
